I think about you a lot. Every night I cook something and I think, ‘shit, I need to blog’. My phone is full of photos of stuff I’ve cooked and they’re all just waiting there, silently judging me (like you lot, I bet).

Things are just BORING here at Casa Average Baker. We eat pretty much nothing but Donna Hay meals and I am only baking on the rare occasion, mostly pushing them onto pregnant friends because we can’t have such contraband in the house. I enter conversation only to say, ‘NO. NO NO NO NO!’ to NewHuman all day, wandering around after him uselessly as he lays a path of destruction through the house. And the dog. The poor, poor dog. The dog he loves, the dog he torments, the dog who, when he hugs her, looks at me with giant, liquid eyes, pleading for me to help her.

I never help her. This is her life now.

Anyway, below is a series of pics of some of the yummier things I’ve made lately. Just tell me if you want recipes for any of them.

I need to go dry my swimmers. I’m at that bloody pool four times a week now, minimum. I’m such a regular that I now spend at least 10 mins of every visit there chatting to the other people who also frequent the pool daily. I suppose it’s only polite, seeing as we all flail around in a pond made (a bit, at least) of each other’s body fluids. I show off by doing butterfly drills. It’s all I have, not that it’s making a jot of difference. Boyfriend has lost 10 pounds or so by just eating a bit less. I am mostly eating a fair amount less, actually, AND swimming, and am still as fat as before.

I want biscuits, now. Speaking of:

These are brown sugar and cinnamon biscuits from an Aussie Women’s Weekly little cookbook thing – they are kind of like gingernuts – hard and crispy. Well, not crispy, just hard. Best taken with a glass of milk or a hot drink. Very tasty, though.

Above is what we ate last night – chicken roasted in a mix of cumin, thyme leaves, dried chilli and lemon zest, served with cucumber and herbs and tzatziki style stuff. BLOODY YUM.

Prawn and tomato soup. Yum but only quite yum I think because I went off-recipe and shoved in some hot smoked paprika. Good diet supper.

Bacon and lentil soup. PROPER YUM. Totally recommended, specially loaded with sour cream and parmesan and parsley.

And below is a typical shot of my excellent attempts at parenting – offering NewHuman the amazing experience of viewing the spin cycle as he eats his lunch. We also enjoy watching the water drain from the bath. It’s high level intellectual stuff here, every day.

Anyway, if you want recipes, do say so.

Tasty yummy hard biscuits…I wonder if they would bake up in the bbq? Life is tough…getting hotter this week…wondering if the dog will actually melt or just act like he is melting this time. Poor “The Dog” :(. I feel for her. It’s like when we bought Earl for Bezial as his “new best friend” and that didn’t work out and now he is the underdog and life has never been the same. You will carry that guilt for a long time. Now…back to those biscuits…

They are v tasty indeed. Poor The Dog, she suffers deeply whilst being utterly spoiled….

She might need one of those biscuits to see her through. Got to say, pretty soon New Human will morph from small intent creature to larger less intense creature and The Dog will fade from his immediate fascination to mere peripheral interests sake. One day she might even get to trot around with him and enjoy his company.

She loves him at suppertime, so it evens out…

The chicken and cucumber thing looks lovely and refreshing and the prawn and tomato soup is not a combination I would have thought of (even though I love both those things)… and you should hug your dog – just occasionally…
